RESOLUTION APPROVING FUNDING AGREEMENT WITH
CITY OF AMES EMPLOYEE CARE FUND COMMITTEE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the Ames City Employee's Care Fund is a 501 C(3) organization with a board
comprised of City employees that exists to provide assistance to employees during times ofhardship;
and,
WHEREAS,the Care Fund receives donations of cash or items from City employees as well
as donations of vacation hours that go into a"vacation bank"; and,
WHEREAS the Care Fund Board then receives applications for assistance from employees
in times of need and may make grants of money, items, or vacation hours under a set of guidelines
approved by the Board and the city manager; and,
WHEREAS, the Care Fund Board is asking that it be eligible to request unclaimed funds
from the City's employee flexible benefits program; and,
WHEREAS, in order for the City to allocate funds to the Care Fund, the Council must
contract with the Care Fund to purchase service, meaning that the Care Fund would need to submit
a proposal similar to the way that human service or arts groups do,and the City Council would then
approve an amount; and,
WHEREAS, any request from the Care Fund would be for only a portion of the unclaimed
flexible benefit dollars which average approximately$3,000 per year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the contract with the Ames City Employee's Care Fund that would allow it to request unclaimed
employee flexible benefit dollars is hereby approved.
