RESOLUTION APPROVING A 10-YEAR LEASE
FOR CAMPUSTOWN LOT T PARKING LOT
AT 209 WELCH AVENUE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, the City Council has referred to staff a request from Dean Hunziker to consider
extending the Dave and Leila Blackburn's I 0-year lease for the Campustown Lot T parking lot located
at 209 Welch Avenue; and,
WHEREAS,this lot is located along the west side of Welch Avenue between McDonalds and
Pizza Pit and contains 29 spaces, including 10 rented and 19 metered spaces; and,
WHEREAS,the initial I 0-year lease agreement called for a lease fee of$1,050 per month,plus
reimbursement of property taxes; and,
WHEREAS,the annual lease and property tax expenses total $19,903; and,
WHEREAS,the current lease,which expires in April 2002,gives the City an option to renew
the lease for another I0-year period at a 15% increased fee; and,
WHEREAS, the lease expense will then increase to $14,490 with total costs at $21,793 per
year; and,
WHEREAS,although Welch Parking Lot T operates at a loss,the City has generally reviewed
the operating revenues in the overall system—not a particular lot or street segment; therefore, staff
believes that the lease for the Welch Lot T should be extended for another 10-year period.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that
the 10-year lease extension for the Campustown Lot T parking lot located at 209 Welch Avenue is
hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 22"d day of January, 2002.
