HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amendment to Personnel Policies and Procedures RESOLUTION NO. 01-561 RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENT TO PERSONNEL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES PERTAINING TO PRE-DISCIPLINARY HEARING FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, Section 14.6 of the Personnel Policies and Procedures provides for a pre- disciplinary hearing conducted by the department head prior to the suspension, demotion, or discharge of a regular employee; and, WHEREAS,although the importance and seriousness of discipline makes it appropriate for pre-disciplinary hearings to be conducted at the level of the department head,there are circumstances in which such a hearing would be appropriately conducted by a manager at a different level; and, WHEREAS,staff recommends that Section 14.6 be modified to provide that the city manager may authorize or direct that pre-disciplinary hearings be conducted by staff other than a department head. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the proposed amendment to Section 14.6 of the Personnel Policies and Procedures providing authorization to the city manager to direct or authorize that pre-disciplinary hearings be conducted by staff other than the department head is hereby approved.
