HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Contract for purchase of Ladder Truck RESOLUTION NO. 01-488 RESOLUTION APPROVING AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR REPLACEMENT OF LADDER TRUCK 1 FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,the Fire Station No.3 plan presented to voters earlier this year included provisions that, if the station referendum should be approved, $800,000 in General Obligation Bonds would also be issued to replace Truck 1 for placement in this station; and, WHEREAS, Truck 1 is the Fire Department's 22 year-old 100-foot aerial apparatus; and, WHEREAS, the fire station referendum was approved on June 26; and, WHEREAS,on July 24,2001,the City Council waived the City's formal bidding procedures for the replacement of Ladder Truck 1 and authorized a negotiated acquisition process to secure the best value;and, WHEREAS,Pierce Manufacturing and American LaFrance are two of the leading manufacturers of fire ladder trucks in the nation; and, WHEREAS, since staff selected standard models and options, both apparatus were similar in capabilities,but had unique qualities; and, WHEREAS, with only a fraction of a percent separating the two bids, staff also considered the delivery schedules and local service capabilities of both firms; and, WHEREAS,after considering all factors, staff believes that the best long-term choice is to purchase the Ladder Truck 1 from Pierce Manufacturing, Inc. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the award of contract to purchase Ladder Truck 1 from Pierce Manufacturing, Inc., at a cost of$619,386 less trade-in allowance of$38,464 for a total net cost of$580,922 is hereby approved.
