RESOLUTION APPROVING IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
FUNDING AGREEMENT FOR THE SIXTH STREET/GRAND AVENUE
INTERSECTION MODIFICATION PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City has been working with the Iowa Department of Transportation(IDOT)to fund
the Sixth Street/Grand Avenue Intersection Modification Project that has been programmed in the City's
Capital Improvement Plan(CIP)for construction in 2002/03; and,
WHEREAS, this project includes constructing a northbound left-turn lane on Grand Avenue,
replacing the traffic signals at the intersection,and construction of a raised median from south of Fifth Street
to Sixth Street that will prevent left turns along this section of Grand Avenue; and,
WHEREAS,this modification project will be effective in mitigating left-turning traffic accidents
at this intersection; and,
WHEREAS,the estimated cost of this proposed proj ect is$1,016,400,and the City and IDOT have
already been granted a $250,000 Traffic Safety Improvement Program grant to cover a portion of this
project; and,
WHEREAS,the remaining costs will be split evenly between the IDOT and the City of Ames with
estimated costs being$383,200 for both; and,
WHEREAS,the City has budgeted$570,000 in General Obligation Bonds to cover our share;and,
WHEREAS,in order to proceed with the project,an agreement needs to be executed with the Iowa
Department of Transportation that formalizes the project concept and the funding allocations.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the
Iowa Department of Transportation Funding Agreement for the Sixth Street/Grand Avenue Intersection
Modification Project is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 23rd day of October,2001.
