RESOLUTION APPROVING AGREEMENT
BETWEEN IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND THE
AMES POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR UNDER-AGE
ALCOHOL ENFORCEMENT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, limiting the availability and consumption of alcohol by under-age persons in our
community continues to be a priority for the Ames Police Department; and,
WHEREAS, in an effort to maintain continuous enforcement and education about under-age
alcohol consumption,the Police Department is again proposing to join with Iowa State University(ISU)
Department of Public Safety,using grant funds from the Office of Juvenile Justice Planning, to conduct
compliance checks, continue the Cops in Shops program, and develop new innovative enforcement and
education; and,
WHEREAS, this agreement will allow the Ames Police Department approximately 420 officer
hours at an overtime rate; and,
WHEREAS, a joint effort in overlapping jurisdictions clearly will benefit the community and
provide for a comprehensive effort in the reduction of alcohol usage within the community at a reduced
cost to the City of Ames; and,
WHEREAS, the amount of funds available to the Ames Police Department from the Office of
Juvenile Justice Planning is$14,000 for overtime expenses and$1,000 for educational materials with no
requirement for a local match.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
the Professional Services Agreement between ISU Department of Public Safety and the Ames Police
Department to reduce consumption of alcohol by under-age persons in our community is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 9th day of October, 2001.
