HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Budget for Cynthia Duff Plaza RESOLUTION NO. 01-447 RESOLUTION APPROVING BUDGET FOR CYNTHIA DUFF PLAZA FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,it was recommended by landscape architect/consultant Craig Ritland that Tom Stancliffe of New Hartford, Iowa, be selected as the artist to create the artwork in Cynthia Duff Plaza; and, WHEREAS, Mr. Stancliffe was contacted and met with the members of the Cynthia Duff Plaza Committee and Story County Master Gardeners,and he was asked to present a design concept; and, WHEREAS, the Public Art Commission approved the design concept presented by Tom Stancliffe and is now asking for the City Council's concurrence; and, WHEREAS,the desired result at Cynthia Duff Plaza is projected to cost between $50,000 - $60,000, as follows: Commemorative Artwork $ 35,000 Commemorative Signage 1,000 Site Preparation 2,500 Water Supply 1,000 Electrical 1,500 Lighting 4,700 Limestone Benches 2,700 Landscape Plant Materials 4,300 Project Administration 3,000 Total J5L5 700 WHEREAS, the projected sources of funding include the following: Public Art Commission FY02 Budget $10,000 Public Art Commission FY03 Budget 5,000 Donations/Fundraising Effort 15,000 In-Kind Donations/Story County Master Gardeners 4,000 Iowa Community Cultural Grant 25,000 Total S51 000 WHEREAS,the Commission requests that the City Council approve their submission of an application for the Iowa Cultural Community Grant with the matching funds to be allocated from the Commission's FY02 budget and public donations; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the request of the Public Art Commission to name Tom Stancliffe as the artist for the sculpture commission to honor Cynthia Duff at a projected cost of$35,000 is approved; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that submission by the Public Art Commission of the application for an Iowa Cultural Community Grant to support the artwork is approved with the matching funds to come from the Commission's FY02 budget($10,000) and public donations.
