RESOLUTION ACCEPTING AWARD OF LOCAL
LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT THROUGH THE
BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE,
U. S.DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grants Program is to provide
units of local governments with funds to underwrite projects to reduce crime and improve public safety;
and,
WHEREAS, our city has been identified by the Bureau of Justice Assistance as a qualified
recipient of law enforcement Block Grant funds in the amount of$10,912; and,
WHEREAS, this is the sixth year that the City of Ames has been identified as a qualified
recipient of Block Grant funds; and,
WHEREAS,a ten percent match is required for all cities receiving Grants, and the funds must
be used to develop or enhance anti-crime, anti-drug, or violence-prevention programs; and,
WHEREAS, it is the intention of the Ames Police Department to use the 2001 Grant funds to
purchase a replacement video recording system for a marked patrol vehicle, equipment relating to the
Department's Bike Patrol Program, and overtime expenses for increased Bike Patrol; and,
WHEREAS, monies will also initiate a community policing residential yard sign program to
encourage motorists to observe residential speed limits.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that
the 2001 Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Award through the Bureau of Justice Assistance,U. S.
Department of Justice, in the amount of$10,912 is hereby accepted.
ADOPTED THIS 25th day of September, 2001.
