RESOLUTION APPROVING MONETARY SUPPORT
TO NEW YORK CITY, NY; WASHINGTON,DC; AND
SUMMERSET COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, IN
RESPONSE TO THE TERRORIST ATTACK
OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001,
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, on the 11th day of September, 2001, a horrific, stunning terrorist attack
occurred; and,
WHEREAS, thousands of Americans, including husbands, wives, sisters, brothers, police
officers, and fire fighters perished in this attack; and,
WHEREAS,we,as American citizens and community leaders,pledge our commitment and
support to the decisions deemed most appropriate by our federal government in response to the
terrorist attack; and,
WHEREAS, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the
families and communities; and,
WHEREAS, the Iowa League of Cities has passed a Resolution suggesting that all cities in
Iowa pledge $1/citizen in financial support to New York City; Washington, DC; and Summerset
County, Pennsylvania.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that financial support in the amount of$50,731, representing $1/citizen, is hereby approved to be
pledged to assist New York City, NY; Washington, DC; and Summerset County, Pennsylvania,
following the terrorist attack that occurred on September 11, 2001, contingent upon the state of
Iowa's 15 most-populated cities pledging the same type of monetary support.
ADOPTED THIS 18th day of September, 2001.
