RESOLUTION APPROVING REQUESTS FOR
AMES HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING PARADE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,the Ames High School Homecoming Committee has requested it be allowed to have
a homecoming parade on October 8,2001, commencing at 6:30 p.m.which would be routed along Fifth
Street, Clark Avenue,Main Street, and back to Bandshell Park; and,
WHEREAS,barricades will be placed on streets along this route for traffic-control purposes and
will be manned by Ames High School officials; and,
WHEREAS,the staging area for the parade will be east of Duff Avenue on streets adjacent to the
Bandshell Park(Sixth Street, Carroll Avenue, and Fifth Street); and,
WHEREAS,to accommodate activities in this area,parking will be prohibited from 5:00 p.m. to
10:30 p.m. to ensure that conflicts are minimized; and,
WHEREAS,temporary no-parking signs will be posted the day prior to the event; and,
WHEREAS, the Main Street District has been informed of the parade and supports the activity;
and,
WHEREAS,it has also been requested that on-street parking along the route be prohibited during
the parade, and organizers will post notices on parking meters and in storefronts notifying patrons and
business owners about the parade.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the
Ames High School Homecoming parade route along Fifth Street,C1arkAvenue,and Main Street,to include
parking prohibitions on streets surrounding Bandshell Park (but not along the metered areas in the
Downtown District),is hereby approved subject to the stipulation that the Homecoming Committee provide
adults to man City-provided barricades at 13 locations along the route.
ADOPTED THIS 1 Ith day of September, 2001.
