HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Agreement for Preservation Planning in Old Town Historic District RESOLUTION NO.01-378 RESOLUTION APPROVING AGREEMENT FOR CONSULTING SERVICES AND SCOPE OF WORK FOR PRESERVATION PLANNING IN OLD TOWN HISTORIC DISTRICT FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,City staff has worked with William C.Page,Public Historian and Preservation Planner,from Des Moines,Iowa,to prepare a Scope of Work for preservation planning in the Old Town Historic District to comply with local, state,and national standards;and, WHEREAS,on September 10,1999,the Historic Preservation Commission discussed the possibility ofupdating historical data on file for each of the structures in the Old Town Historic District and recommended that the Council investigate the cost of hiring a consultant to update the inventory;and, WHEREAS, on October 29, 1999, Mr. Page submitted an estimate of cost for updating the inventory of structures in the Old Town Historic district and the cost of preparing a National register nomination;and, WHEREAS,Mr.Page recommended a two-phase approach with the first phase including a survey,inventory, and evaluation of each structure within the boundaries of the District;and, WHEREAS,Phase 2 would include the preparation of the Old Town Historic District as a National Historic District; and, WHEREAS,as part of an investigation for grant funding, staff determined that the State Historic Society and the National Park Service,which must review all applications for National Register nominations,will require that the proposed project be conducted in three phases;and, WHEREAS,Phase 1 would include the preparation of written historic contexts encapsulating the history of the Old Town District,Phase 2 includes a survey,inventory,and evaluation of each structure within the boundaries of the District, and Phase 3 is the preparation of a National Register of Historic Places application for the listing of the Old Town Historic District as a federal historic district; and, WHEREAS,the proposed project schedule would be as follows: 1)Phase 1 -beginning in September 2001 and ending in April 2002; 2) Phase 2 -beginning April 2002 and ending November 2002; and, 3) Phase 3 -beginning November 2002 and ending October 2003; and, WHEREAS, the proposed cost for the project would total $38,150.00 (Phase 1 - $9,275.00; Phase 2 - $19,825.00;Phase 3 -$9,050.00). NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the agreement for Consulting Services and the Scope of Work with William C.Page for preservation planning in the Old town Historic District is hereby approved with an appropriation of an additional$2,150.00 of Local Option Tax Revenue funds.
