HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Participation in Feasibility Study for Joint Municipal Power Plant RESOLUTION NO. 01-375 RESOLUTION APPROVING PARTICIPATION IN IOWA ASSOCIATION OF MUNICIPAL UTILITIES FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR JOINT MUNICIPAL POWER PLANT FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,several municipal electric utilities have indicated to the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities (IAMU) the need for electric capacity after 2003; and, WHEREAS, IAMU surveyed its members in March 2001, and 88 members expressed interest in a joint municipal power plant; and, WHEREAS,IAMU is organizing a consortium of municipal utilities to jointly develop a coal-fired power plant in Iowa that is anticipated to be on line by 2008; and, WHEREAS,the first phase of this project is to develop a feasibility study for a base load coal-fired power plant at various sites that have been identified by IAMU; and, WHEREAS,IAMU has sent out a Request for Proposals for this feasibility study,and the responses are due August 24, 2001; and, WHEREAS, the estimated cost of this study is $325,000, and each member utility that expressed interest in the joint municipal power plant will be billed its share for the feasibility study; and, WHEREAS,the City of Ames Electric Services expressed interest in the study, and its share will be approximately$15,000. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the participation of the City of Ames in an Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities feasibility study for a joint municipal power plant at a cost of approximately$15,000 is hereby approved with encouragement to look at overall production and demand proposed in the state of Iowa.
