HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - IDOT Agreement for Dayton Avenue Reconstruction Project RESOLUTION NO. 01-348 RESOLUTION APPROVING IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT)AGREEMENT FOR FEDERAL AID (SECTION 378 DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS PROGRAM) FOR DAYTON AVENUE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT FROM 13TH STREET TO LINCOLN WAY FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,it has been decided that it is necessary to widen Dayton Avenue from two lane to a three- lane facility from Lincoln Way to East 13th Street and to construct a viaduct across the Union Pacific Railroad's main line to meet existing and future traffic needs; and, WHEREAS,through discussions with Union Pacific Railroad officials,they have indicated that they will fund$120,000 towards this project to meet their contributory obligation; and, WHEREAS, during the Dayton Avenue design meetings,it was discussed with area residents that an assessment of$50 per front footage along Dayton Avenue would generate$432,000 towards this project;and, WHEREAS,the United States Congress passed legislation authorizing a$3,192,960 FHWA Section 378 Demonstration Projects for the Dayton Avenue Reconstruction and Railroad Overpass project; and, WHEREAS, the Iowa DOT disburses these grants, and it is necessary for the City of Ames to enter into an agreement with them to receive the grant monies; and, WHEREAS, according to the Agreement, the City of Ames is responsible for all costs for the development and completion of the project according to Iowa DOT specifications and requirements; and, WHEREAS, the Iowa DOT will bid the project, and the City of Ames will perform project administration and provide construction inspection. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Iowa Department of Transportation Agreement for federal aid(Section 378 Demonstration Projects Program) for Dayton Avenue Reconstruction Project from 13th Street to Lincoln Way is hereby approved.
