HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Contract for purchase of Ladder Truck and Rescue Truck for Fire Station RESOLUTION NO. 01-339 RESOLUTION WAIVING FORMAL BIDDING PROCEDURES AND DIRECTING STAFF TO NEGOTIATE CONTRACTS FOR PURCHASE OF LADDER TRUCK 1 AND RESCUE TRUCK 3 FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,City ofAmes'purchasing procedures require formal bidding for purchases over$50,000;and, WHEREAS,historically fire trucks have been purchased through formal bidding by developing a generic and customized specification; and, WHEREAS,staff believes that by utilizing standard models and related pricing,a higher quality apparatus can be selected while reducing the cost to the taxpayers; and, WHEREAS, staff negotiations will be conducted to pursue opportunities for reducing costs by utilizing standard models and options,rather than custom engineered fire apparatus; and, WHEREAS, staff will also pursue opportunities for combining the two apparatus purchases to obtain additional discounts and options for existing equipment, including demo apparatus; and, WHEREAS,in order to reduce costs,assure high quality,and stay within schedules necessary for the new Fire Station#3 project, individual negotiations on standard model fire apparatus can be conducted with leading manufacturers; and, WHEREAS,this prof ect is scheduled to comply with the opening ofnew Fire Station#3 in Fall 2002;and, WHEREAS, fire ladder trucks have construction lead times of 7 to 12 months, and rescue trucks have construction lead times of 6 to 9 months. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the City of Ames' formal bidding procedures are hereby waived and City staff is authorized to negotiate contracts related to the purchase of Ladder Truck 1 and Rescue Truck 3, subject to the City Council's approval of contracts.
