RESOLUTION APPROVING ALLOCATION OF UP
TO $2,500 FROM THE CONTINGENCY FUND
TO THE PUBLIC ART COMMISSION FOR
COMPLETION OF THE ARCHIE MARTIN PIER PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, the Public Art Commission has been asked by the Martin Foundation for
assistance of the Public Art Commission in determining monetary sources for reaching the needed
$12,000 to construct a pier to honor the Archie Martin family; and,
WHEREAS,Public Art Commission members strongly suggested that the Foundation apply
for an Iowa Community Cultural Grant from the Department of Cultural Affairs to fund this project,
which honors an African American family, and,
WHEREAS,because the Martin Foundation hopes to turn the Martin house into a museum
and may seek funding from the Department of Cultural Affairs to do so, they do not want to apply
for an Iowa Community Cultural Grant to fund the construction of a Fifth Street pier; and,
WHEREAS,the Foundation has conducted a fund-raising campaign,however,it appears that
they are approximately$2,500 short of their goal if the construction bid comes in around$12,500.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that an allocation of up to $2,500 from the City's 2001/02 Contingency Account to the Public Art
Commission for use towards completion of the Archie Martin pier project at the northeast corner of
Fifth Street and Burnett Avenue is hereby approved.
