HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street Closures for Shrine Bowl All-Star Football Parade RESOLUTION NO. 01-329 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES AND USE OF CITY HALL'S WEST PARKING LOT FOR SHRINE BOWL ALL-STAR FOOTBALL CLASSIC PARADE FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, the Iowa Shrine Bowl is planning to have the Iowa All-Star Football Game in Ames on Saturday,July 28,2001; and, WHEREAS, as part of this event,the Iowa Shrine Bowl is requesting to temporarily close streets for the Iowa Shrine Bowl Parade on July 28 that will kick off the day's events; and, WHEREAS,the parade is planned from approximately 11:30 a.m.to 12:30 p.m.and to be routed on Fifth Street,Douglas Avenue, Main Street, and Pearle Avenue within the Downtown Business District; and, WHEREAS, as part of the request, organizers believe that parking within the metered area should be curtailed approximately one hour before the start of the parade to minimize disruption and enhance safety; and, WHEREAS, the Shrine Bowl will provide volunteers to post signage along the parking areas and staff barricades at the minor intersection crossings along the route; and, WHEREAS,the parade procession is planning to stage within the west City Hall parking lot,so organizers are also requesting that the City's 35 official vehicles be relocated for the weekend to City Hall's east parking lot. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the request from the Shrine Bowl to temporarily block intersections and street sections along Main Street(Pearle to Douglas), Pearle Avenue(Main Street to Fifth Street),Douglas Avenue(Main Street to Fifth Street),and Fifth Street(Pearle Avenue to Douglas Avenue)for its parade scheduled on Saturday,July 28,2001,from 11:30 a.m.to 12:30 p.m.is hereby approved along with the use of City Hall's west lot for organizers to use as the parade's staging area. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council that the request that on-street parking be prohibited on July 28 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. along the sections of the parade route along Main Street, Fifth Street, Douglas Avenue, and Pearle Avenue is hereby approved.
