HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Installation of parking meters adjacent to 303 Welch Avenue RESOLUTION NO.01-308 RESOLUTION APPROVING LEASE FOR INSTALLING PARKING METERS AND PROVIDING PUBLIC PARKING ADJACENT TO 303 WELCH AVENUE FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,Council has directed staffto evaluate a request from Matt Randall to install parking meters along the eight perpendicular parking spaces along the south side of Hunt Street adjacent to 303 Welch avenue; and, WHEREAS,this was requested to improve parking turnover for this commercial property since it was reported that many of these spaces were being utilized for long-term parking; and, WHEREAS, currently, these parking spaces are unmetered, and it was indicated that enforcement would greatly benefit the surrounding businesses; and, WHEREAS,it should be noted that all other on-street parking areas along Welch Avenue in this area have a two-or four-hour time limit for parking use; and, WHEREAS,staff concurs that parking meter installations would improve parking turnover in the spaces in from of 303 Welch Avenue; and, WHEREAS, in order to install parking meters along these spaces in front of 303 Welch Avenue,the City needs to approve a lease agreement with the property owner; and, WHEREAS,the lease agreement has a two-year sunset clause in order to re-evaluate the operation to either continue metering for provide"free"parking; and, WHEREAS,according to the agreement,the City will pay the property owner a fee of$1.00 for the use of the private property; and, WHEREAS, the agreement also contains other provisions concerning the maintenance of the lot,parking meter regulations and rates,revenue collection,and enforcement activities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the lease agreement with Scott E.Randall for installing parking meters along the perpendicular parking spaces on Hunt Street in front of 303 Welch Avenue is hereby approved. ADOPTED THIS 1 Oth day of July,2001.
