RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGE
IN BOUNDARY FOR SUB-AREA PLANNING
IN URBAN CORE AREA SOUTH OF LINCOLN WAY
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, the Land Use Policy Plan (LUPP) calls for sub-area planning as a tool to implement
designated land uses in specific areas of the community; and,
WHEREAS,with the approval of the LUPP,the Council designated the area south of Lincoln Way to
South 3rd Street between Duff Avenue and Walnut Avenue as"Highway-Oriented Commercial"and called for
this land use to be implemented through a sub-area planning process; and,
WHEREAS, staff is presenting a summary of the context for the sub-area planning process, defined
boundaries of the south portion of the Urban Core area,and a tentative process and schedule for planning activity
in order to stimulate public discussion leading to agreement on how the community will use this sub-area
planning tool to further implement public policy and community development; and,
WHEREAS,staff reported on January 23,2001,that sub-area planning can help implement goals of the
LUPP; and,
WHEREAS,the Urban Core Area currently extends south to South 5th Street,west to Squaw Creek,and
east to Sumner Avenue; and,
WHEREAS,a proposed change to the sub-area boundary of the Urban Core Area south of Lincoln Way
would run south to Squaw Creek, east to Duff Avenue, and west to Grandwood Drive; and,
WHEREAS,the selected sub-area contains a mixture of inter-related land uses; and,
WHEREAS, on January 23,2001,the City Council endorsed the general sub-area planning process.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the
change in the boundary for sub-area planning in the Urban Core area south of Lincoln Way is hereby approved.
