RESOLUTION APPROVING SUPPLEMENTAL AGREEMENT
WITH KIRKHAM,MICHAEL AND ASSOCIATES,INC.,FOR
ADDITIONAL DESIGN FEES FOR THE SOUTH DAKOTA AVENUE/U. S.HWY.30
INTERCHANGE PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, the Kirkham, Michael and Associates consulting firm has been working on the South
Dakota/U. S. #30 Interchange Design Project since 1997; and,
WHEREAS, during this time, there have been many design changes and delays that have resulted in
increased fees not included in the original contract; and,
WHEREAS,the subsequent delays in the design have increased consultant costs since the wage rates have
increased over the two-year period when the design was intended to be completed; and,
WHEREAS, due to the wage rate differences between these periods, the consultant is requesting an
additional fee of$4,500 to cover these expenses; and,
WHEREAS,other design costs for this project have risen due to the additional work created by the changes
in Iowa DOT design standards and department reorganization; and,
WHEREAS, as a result, the consultant had to revise the design on many occasions to address comments
made by different Iowa DOT review teams and new standards that have been adopted by the agency;
WHEREAS, over the past four years, this redesign of the Project that was needed to incorporate new
changes has led to an increase of$19,300 in consulting fees; and,
WHEREAS, additional fees in the amount of$5,300 are also sought to compensate the consultant for
additional bridge and street lighting design work needed to address other Iowa DOT design requirements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the
supplemental agreement with Kirkham,Michael and Associates for$29,100 to cover additional design fees for the
South Dakota/U. S. #30 Interchange Project is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 12th day of June, 2001.
