RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENT TO
ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT
FOR THE DAYTON AVENUE
RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,during the past 18 months,City staff and the consulting firm of Snyder and Associates
have been working with the area businesses on a plan to reconstruct Dayton Avenue and build a viaduct over
the Union Pacific railroad crossing; and,
WHEREAS,in October 2000,the City negotiated an engineering design agreement with Snyder and
Associates for Phase I(roadway design)and for a Preliminary Phase II(viaduct design)of this project;and,
WHEREAS,since this Agreement was negotiated,City staff selected the consulting firm of Shuck-
Britson, Inc., of Des Moines, Iowa, to complete the structural engineering services for the viaduct bridge
and retaining walls;
WHEREAS,the consulting firm of Allender-Butzke of Des Moines,Iowa,was selected to perform
geotechnical investigation and soils design; and,
WHEREAS,with these additional services and also due to more stringent federal and state standards
imposed for the special$3.2 million appropriations grant awarded for this project,the costs for engineering
services have increased for this project(from$272,200 to $386,750); and,
WHEREAS,this project is included in the 2000/01 Capital Improvement Plan and will be funded
with federal grants,Union Pacific monies, City funds,and property assessments.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the
Amendment to the Engineering Services Agreement for the Dayton Avenue Reconstruction Project to
increase the contract fees to $386,750 is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 8th day of May, 2001.
