HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Purchase agreement for 245 acres at Hallett's Quarry RESOLUTION NO. 01-183 RESOLUTION APPROVING"CONDITIONAL" PURCHASE AGREEMENT WITH HUBBELL REALTY COMPANY FOR APPROXIMATELY 245 ACRES AT HALLETT'S QUARRY FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,for over a year,City staff has been working with representatives of the Hubbell Realty Company to develop a mutually acceptable purchase agreement for the Hallett's Quarry property; and, WHEREAS,the effort to purchase the property is consistent with the City Council's goal to develop this area into a public open space to promote passive recreation opportunities and to protect our secondary water supply; and, WHEREAS, the Hallett's property includes approximately 127 acres of lake and 141 acres of surrounding land; and, WHEREAS, the Hubbell Company has a purchase option on this 268 acres, and therefore, has the legal right until January 31, 2001, to sell this property to the City; and, WHEREAS, realizing that any final decision to move ahead with the development of this area as an open space is contingent upon the citizens approving a bond referendum, City staff is recommending approval of a"Conditional"Purchase Agreement,containing certain conditions that must be met before either party will be bound to proceed with the purchase. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the "Conditional" Purchase Agreement with Hubbell Realty Company for approximately 245 acres at Hallett's Quarry is hereby approved.
