RESOLUTION CANCELING CONTRACT WITH
LINWOOD MINING& MINERALS FOR
FURNISHING PEBBLE LIME FOR WATER PLANT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, on May 9, 1999, the City awarded a contract to Linwood Mining&Minerals
Corporation, Davenport, Iowa, to provide pebble lime for water treatment for FY 1999/2000, and
on April 25, 2000, the Council approved the renewal option for FY 2000/01; and,
WHEREAS, problems with quality and receiving the required test reports during the first
year of this contract were intermittent,and when reported to the contractor,short-term improvements
were seen;
WHEREAS, the quality of material received under this contract has declined steadily
throughout the current year, and receipt of the required test reports has also been a problem; and,
WHEREAS, the inconsistency in the quality of pebble lime and failure to meet the
specifications result in a possible compromise in our water quality.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,
that the contract with Linwood Mining&Minerals to provide pebble lime for water treatment during
FY 2000/01 is hereby canceled and staff is directed to solicit new bids.
ADOPTED THIS 27th day of March, 2001.
