HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Negotiation of Purchase Contract for Ice Resurfacer RESOLUTION NO. 01-046 RESOLUTION WAIVING FORMAL BIDDING PROCEDURES AND AUTHORIZING STAFF TO NEGOTIATE A PURCHASE CONTRACT WITH BECKER ARENA PRODUCTS FOR A NEW OLYMPIA MILLENNIUM ICE RESURFACER FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, the existing Olympia ice resurfacer that was purchased in 1992 is scheduled for replacement; and, WHEREAS,only two companies manufacture ice-resurfacing machines:Olympia and Zamboni;and, WHEREAS,prior to 1992,the City's experience with maintaining and operating a Zamboni was less than desirable due to specialized parts being available only from Zamboni, the difficulty in keeping the unit running, and excessive emissions from the engine; and, WHEREAS,Olympia and Zamboni each have several models/sizes of ice resurfacers,however,none of the machines are equal one to the other for competitive bidding and pricing; and, WHEREAS, the current Olympia machine, with an 84" ice cut, has proven to be an excellent size without being too big; and, WHEREAS,the closest Zamboni machine has only a smaller 77" ice cut while their next larger unit has a 96" cut and is too large for the Ames/ISU Ice Arena; and, WHEREAS, staff has determined that it is most desirable and to the City's advantage to purchase a new Olympia Millennium model ice resurfacer as a replacement to the current machine due to the location of the dealer, the ease of maintenance, the size of the machine, and the assumed price advantage. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that formal bidding procedures are hereby waived and staff is authorized to negotiate a purchase contract with Becker Arena Products of Minneapolis, Minnesota, for a new Olympia Millennium ice resurfacer. ADOPTED THIS 13th day of February, 2001. �f Diane R.
