RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN EXPENDITURE OF
$3,000 PLUS AIR FARE, LODGING,AND MEAL EXPENSES TO
ZIMMERMAN/VOLK FOR CONSULTATION SERVICES
RELATIVE TO SOMERSET VILLAGE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, at their meeting of December 19, 2000, the City Council directed that the City
Manager determine the availability of the firm of Zimmerman/Volk to prepare a marketing analysis
for Somerset Village; and,
WHEREAS,the work that was initially outlined by Zimmerman/Volk would include a site visit
to Ames occurring in mid-February and the completion of the Market Position Analysis in the form
of a written report by late March for a fee of$23,200; and,
WHEREAS, staff understands that the creation of the Market Position Analysis is an
appropriate step,but the proposed time frame for the completion of the work was seen as problematic;
and,
WHEREAS, staff discussed the possibility of Zimmerman/Volk providing an interim service
in a more near-term time frame; and,
WHEREAS,based on the urging of City staff,Zimmerman/Volk is willing to provide a greatly
reduced"consultation service"that would involve a two-day visit to Ames; and,
WHEREAS,this "consultation service"could occur as soon as January 30/31, 2001, and the
cost for this service would be a day-rate charge of $1,500/day plus air fare, lodging, and meal
expenses.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that
the expenditure of$3,000 plus air fare,lodging,and meal expenses to Zimmerman/Volk for providing
a two-day"consultation service"relative to the development of Somerset Village is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 9th day of January,2001.
