HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Federal Equitable Sharing Agreement for Ames Police Department RESOLUTION NO. 01-008 RESOLUTION APPROVING FEDERAL EQUITABLE SHARING AGREEMENT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,the Ames Police Department is desirous of entering into an agreement with the Department of Justice in order to allow it to share in the forfeiture of assets seized pursuant to successful criminal investigations; and, WHEREAS,the Police Department has and will continue to work with federal agencies and participate in joint criminal investigations; and, WHEREAS, as a result of cooperative investigations, assets are seized that are the result of criminal activities and are subject to forfeiture under federal statute; and, WHEREAS, the agreement will allow the federal government to share the assets with the local agencies that participated in the investigation; and, WHEREAS, each participating agency must have on file a signed agreement and provide proper documentation as to the use of these funds to the Department of Justice; and, WHEREAS, by statute, these funds must be used to supplement law enforcement and not supplant the agency budget. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Federal Equitable Sharing Agreement between the City of Ames Police Department and the Department of Justice is hereby approved.
