HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Agreement for traffic signal installation-US Hwy. 30 off-ramp/Duff Intersection RESOLUTION NO. 01-003 RESOLUTION APPROVING PROJECT AGREEMENT WITH IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT THE U. S.HWY.30 WESTBOUND OFF-RAMP/ SOUTH DUFF AVENUE INTERSECTION FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,included in the 2000/05 Capital Improvement Plan is a project to install a traffic signal at the U. S. #30 westbound off-ramp/South Duff Avenue intersection; and, WHEREAS,this intersection has been highly prioritized for traffic signals due to the high traffic volumes and excessive delays at the intersection; and, WHEREAS,traffic volume warrants are met for installing traffic signals at the U.S.#30 westbound off-ramp/South Duff Avenue intersection based on the Federal Highway Administration's "Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD)peak-hour warrant; and, WHEREAS, signal warrants are met based on the MUTCD's "Interruption of Traffic" and "Minimum Vehicular Volume"warrants for traffic volumes during an eight-hour day; and, WHEREAS,the accident rate is expected to increase with the growing traffic volume on South Duff Avenue and within the community; and, WHEREAS,the estimated costs for installing traffic signals at the intersection is$150,000,of which 100%of the project costs will be covered by this Iowa Department of Transportation funding grant; and, WHEREAS,the IDOT requested that the City undertake the design and contract administration due to the available staff expertise and has agreed to reimburse the City for those costs. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the funding agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for installation of traffic signals at the U. S. #30 westbound off-ramp/South Duff Avenue intersection is hereby approved. ADOPTED THIS 9th day of January, 2001. Diane R.
