RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING MATCHING FUNDS TO
REHABILITATE THE SOUTH APRON AND TAXIWAY TO
THE EASTERLY HANGAR AREA
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,on November 13, 1997,the Council accepted the completion of a master plan update for the
Ames Municipal Airport; and
WHEREAS,this plan examined all the needs of the airport and recommended improvements to keep the
infrastructure in safe condition; and,
WHEREAS,the 2000/2001 Capital Improvements Program includes $145,200 for the rehabilitation of
the taxiway to the easterly hangar area and the resurfacing of the south apron; and,
WHEREAS,the City has been notified that the potential for funding an FAA grant for this project was
approved, however, the FAA will only submit formal grant offers after bids for the project are received and
approved; and,
WHEREAS, this project was reevaluated in April 2000, and the engineer's estimate was increased an
additional $45,000; and,
WHEREAS, the total estimated cost for the project, including engineering and inspection, is $190,200
with the City's share to be $19,020 and the FAA's share to be$171,180; and,
WHEREAS, staff feels that the engineering firm that is currently rebidding the Taxiway 13/31
Reconstruction Project could combine the project with this new project for a much better bid package; and,
WHEREAS,the project design will begin pending FAA approval of the negotiated services contract in
the amount of$19,100.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that matching
funds to rehabilitate the south apron and taxiway to the easterly hangar area are hereby authorized and the
engineering services agreement with Earth Tech of Des Moines,Iowa, is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 19th day of December,2000.
