HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Agreement with ISU Dept. of Public Safety for Alcohol Enforcement RESOLUTION NO. 00-538 RESOLUTION APPROVING PROFESSIONAL SERVICE AGREEMENT BETWEEN ISU DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND AMES POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR ALCOHOL ENFORCEMENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, excessive alcohol consumption by underage people in this community continues to be a concern of the Police Department; and, WHEREAS, in order to address this issue, there must be continual efforts to educate liquor license- holders and the young people of the community; and, WHEREAS,along with this education effort,there must be an enforcement program that helps ensure compliance of the applicable laws; and, WHEREAS,Iowa State University Department of Public Safety(ISU DPS)has received funding from the Office of Juvenile Justice Planning(OJJP)to address these issues; and, WHEREAS, because of the overlapping jurisdiction and joint concerns, it is clear that a combined effort involving both agencies would be beneficial; and, WHEREAS,the Professional Service Agreement between ISU Department of Public Safety(ISU DPS) and the City of Ames will allow for overtime reimbursement to the Ames Police Department as well as recovering costs for educational/promotional materials being received from OJJP through ISU DPS; and, WHEREAS, with these funds, the Police Department will be able to reinstitute the Cops in Shops program,conduct more frequent alcohol compliance checks,be more proactive in residential party patrols,and recover the cost of the training sessions that are being conducted for all employees of liquor license establishments. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Professional Service Agreement between Iowa State University Department of Public Safety and the Ames Police Department for alcohol enforcement is hereby approved.
