HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Award from Bureau of Justice Assistance for Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds RESOLUTION NO. 00-523 RESOLUTION ACCEPTING AWARD FROM THE BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,the purpose of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grants Program is to provide units of local government with funds to underwrite projects to reduce crime and improve public safety; and WHEREAS, the City of Ames has been identified by the Bureau of Justice Assistance as a qualified recipient of law enforcement block grant funds in the amount of$11,283.00; and WHEREAS,a ten percent match is required for all cities receiving grants,and the funds must be used to develop or enhance anti-crime, anti-drug, or violence prevention programs; and WHEREAS, it is the intention of the Ames Police Department to use the 2000 grant funds to purchase a multiple-target turning system for the Department's firing range; and, WHEREAS, staff has also proposed that the local match amount be allocated from Police Forfeiture account funds. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the submittal of the application to the Bureau of Justice Assistance for law enforcement block grant funds in the amount of$11,273.00 be hereby approved, and the expenditure of funds in the Police Forfeiture account to satisfy the grant match be hereby authorized.
