RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EMERGENCY REPAIRS
TO 16-INCH RAW WATER WELL LINE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS,in August 2000, staff was granted authorization by the Council for the immediate
replacement of two sections of raw water well line and the installation of three new valves; and,
WHEREAS, at that time, staff estimated the extent of the repairs to be approximately$60,000
based on information on old blueprints; and,
WHEREAS, at this point, all three valves have been replaced, and one section of pipe in the
vicinity of Kellogg and Gilchrist has been replaced; and,
WHEREAS, one section of pipe in this area was considerably longer than the old plans
indicated, and the entire $60,000 estimated repair costs have been used; and,
WHEREAS, the second section located south of the Dutch Oven Bakery in the Duff Center
commercial area has not been addressed,therefore, causing Well No. 13 to be unusable; and,
WHEREAS,in accordance with the Iowa Code,staff has secured certification from an engineer
that the nature of the repairs constitutes an emergency; and,
WHEREAS, it is estimated that the replacement of about 100 feet of pipe in this area will cost
an additional $28,700 with the funding coming from savings from the Water Plant Radio Telemetry
Project.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that
emergency repairs to the 16-inch raw water well line located on South Duff Avenue near the Dutch
Oven Bakery are hereby authorized, and the budget changes in order to expedite the pipe replacement
are hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 24th day of October, 2000.
