RESOLUTION APPROVING AWARD OF CONTRACT
FOR SOUTH DUFF AVENUE TRAIL PROJECT,PHASE I
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,included in the 1999/2000 Capital Improvements Program is the first phase of a two-year project
to construct a South Duff Avenue bicycle trail from South Fifth Street to Airport Road; and,
WHEREAS,construction will be split into two phases; and,
WHEREAS,Phase I will consist of a trail extending along South Duff Avenue from Airport Road north to
Chestnut Street; and,
WHEREAS,the entire project can not be completed this year due to the issue of extending the trail across the
Squaw Creek Bridge; and,
WHEREAS,the Iowa Department of Transportation(IDOT)is considering plans to widen the bridge in several
years; and,
WHEREAS, staff has met with the IDOT to facilitate this project so that the trail can be extended to South
Fifth Street in the next few years,and it is expected that the bridge project may not be planned until 2002/03; and,
WHEREAS, the project will be funded with a portion of Surface Transportation Program (STP) -
Transportation Enhancement(TE)Funds; and,
WHEREAS,the estimated cost for the first phase is $330,000 and will be funded on a 80/20 split with the
City's share being$66,000 funded from the Local Options Sales Tax; and,
WHEREAS,the IDOT let the project and four bids were received; and,
WHEREAS,the lowest bid was received from Peterson Contractors,Inc.,of Reinbeck,Iowa,in the amount
of$258,669.89.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the award of
contract for the construction of the South Duff Avenue Trail Project, Phase 1, to Peterson Contractors, Inc., of
Reinbeck,Iowa,in the amount of$258,669.89 is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 1 Oth day of October,2000.
