HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Temporary Street Closures for ISU Homecoming Parade on October 20, 2000 RESOLUTION NO. 00-476 RESOLUTION APPROVING TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURES FOR ISU HOMECOMING PARADE FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,the Iowa State University Student Alumni Association Homecoming Committee is planning a Homecoming Parade to be held on October 20, 2000, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS,as part of this event,the Committee is requesting the closure of Storm Street(Stanton Avenue to Welch Avenue), Welch Avenue (Storm Street to Lincoln Way), and the Lincoln Way and Welch Avenue intersection; and, WHEREAS,due to the need to provide police,ambulance,and fire emergency access along these streets, it is imperative that these streets remain open,but it has not been a problem in the past to temporarily close street sections for short periods while the Parade procession passes; and, WHEREAS,the Police and Fire Departments have been contacted and have no problems with the temporary street closures along Welch Avenue and Storm Street; and, WHEREAS,City staff feels that the Welch/Lincoln Way intersection must be staffed by officers from either the Iowa State University Department of Public Safety(ISU DPS)and/or the Ames Police Department to properly control traffic. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the temporary closure of Storm Street(Stanton Avenue to Welch Avenue), Welch Avenue (Storm Street to Lincoln Way),and the Lincoln Way and Welch Avenue intersection on October 20,2000,for the ISU Homecoming Parade is approved subj ect to ISU DPS and/or Ames Police Department providing traffic control at the Lincoln Way/Welch intersection.
