RESOLUTION WAIVING PARKING PROHIBITIONS
AND APPROVING CLOSURE OF PARTS OF HAYWARD AVENUE
AND MORTENSEN ROAD ON OCTOBER 14, 20009 AND
NOVEMBER 20, 2000
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, Iowa State University will again host the NCAA Cross Country National
Championship meet on Monday,November 20, and a pre-meet race on October 14, 2000; and,
WHEREAS,the ISU Athletic Department is requesting that the City waive parking prohibitions
and close streets to accommodate the large number of spectators and participants attending both races;
and,
WHEREAS,in order to accommodate the parking,traffic,and other activities for the two races,
it is requested that street sections be closed along both Mortensen Road (State Avenue to Hayward
Avenue)and Hayward Avenue(Storm Street to Mortensen Road) from 8:30 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. on both
dates; and,
WHEREAS, of these street sections, the City has jurisdiction only along the north 210-foot
section of Hayward Avenue; and,
WHEREAS,the University will be responsible for directing traffic for the street closures along
Hayward Avenue and Mortensen Road and for placing any temporary directional and closure signs
along these streets to inform participants and motorists.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that
the requested street closures and parking prohibitions along Hayward Avenue (Storm Street to
Mortensen Road) from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on October 14 and November 20, 2000, for the NCAA
Cross County National Championship and pre-meet events are hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 26th day of September, 2000.
