RESOLUTION APPROVING PROJECT AGREEMENT WITH
IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION PROVIDING
FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE INTERSECTION
OF LINCOLN WAY AND GRAND AVENUE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, staff has been working with the Iowa Department of Transportation(IDOT)on the design
of the project to reconstruct the intersection of Lincoln Way and Grand Avenue; and,
WHEREAS,this project involved reconstruction of Lincoln Way west of Clark/Walnut to Oak Avenue
and on Grand Avenue from 500'north of Lincoln Way to 400' south; and,
WHEREAS,the project will create a new entrance to the Lincoln Center and the IDOT; and,
WHEREAS,the project is expected to cost$2,700,000 for construction and right-of-way; and,
WHEREAS,the IDOT has undertaken the design and will administer the contract at no cost to the City;
and,
WHEREAS,the IDOT will donate the land needed from their property for the project; and,
WHEREAS,during the development of the HyVee store in the Lincoln Center in 1997,the City entered
into an agreement with the Center landowner for several items related to this project;
WHEREAS,the streetlights will also have to be rebuilt due to the street widening,and the IDOT has not
historically participated in the cost of streetlights on local projects; and,
WHEREAS,the City's share is expected to be $1,175,000; and,
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the project
agreement with the IDOT that provides for the reconstruction of the intersection of Lincoln Way and Grand and
the sharing of project costs,after the Lincoln Center contribution is subtracted and the streetlight costs excepted,
is hereby approved.
