HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Agreement with Story County Habitat for Humanity to Purchase Vacant Lot RESOLUTION NO. 00-399 RESOLUTION APPROVING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF AMES AND STORY COUNTY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TO PROVIDE FUNDS TO PURCHASE A VACANT LOT LOCATED AT 1127 NORTHWESTERN AVENUE IN CONNECTION WITH THE CITY'S AFFORDABLE HOUSING INITIATIVES FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,staff received a letter from the Story County Habitat for Humanity inquiring if the City would be interested in partnering with them to purchase a vacant lot located at 1127 Northwestern Avenue; and, WHEREAS,the City would provide the funds for Habitat to purchase the lot so that they could construct a home that would be available for purchase by a very low-income homebuyer(50%or less of the Story County median)who has been approved for participation in the Habitat program; and, WHEREAS,Story County Habitat for Humanity has become a viable organization for providing housing opportunities for very low-income families within Story County; and, WHEREAS, staff is requesting approval from the City Council to utilize $8,000 from a small fund balance that is remaining in the City's Phase IV Maintenance Assistance Program; and, WHEREAS, an agreement between the City of Ames and Story County Habitat for Humanity has been prepared. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the agreement between the City of Ames and Story County Habitat for Humanity to provide funds to purchase a vacant lot located at 1127 Northwestern Avenue in connection with the City's Affordable Housing initiatives is hereby approved and the relocation of funds remaining in the City's Maintenance Assistance Program to this project is authorized.
