HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Naming Lloyd Kurtz Park in Bloomington Heights Subdivision RESOLUTION NO. 00-378 RESOLUTION NAMING PARKLAND IN BLOOMINGTON HEIGHTS SUBDIVISION AS "LLOYD KURTZ PARK" FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,during 1999/2000,a 4.5-acre parcel of land was developed into a neighborhood park at the corner of Bloomington Road and Hyde Avenue in North Ames; and, WHEREAS,the City does not have formal guidelines established regarding naming park]and and facilities; and, WHEREAS,with the completion of this new park,City officials are afforded the opportunity to honor and permanently recognize an individual for his contribution to the Ames Park system-- Lloyd Kurtz; and, WHEREAS, Mr. Kurtz, who passed away in 1999 at the age of 94, was responsible for acquiring much of the parkland that Ames'residents enjoy today,serving on the Parks Commission between 1952 and 1970 when over 300 acres of parkland were acquired; and, WHEREAS,land that Mr.Kurtz pursued,by making personal contacts with property owners and suggesting that they donate their property to the City for future generations to enj oy as parkland, included East,North, and South River Valley, Inis Grove, and Moore Memorial Park; WHEREAS, at their June meeting, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved recommending to the City Council that this new neighborhood park be named"Lloyd Kurtz Park." NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that approval is hereby given for the parkland located at the corner of Bloomington Road and Hyde Avenue to be named"Lloyd Kurtz Park." ADOPTED THIS 25th day of July, 2000. '� ' Diane R.
