HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Change to Natural Resources Section of Land Use Policy Plan RESOLUTION NO. 00-375 RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGE TO THE NATURAL RESOURCES SECTION OF THE LAND USE POLICY PLAN (LUPP) FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,with the recent completion of the Stormwater Management Plan for the Hallett's Quarry Watershed,it has become apparent that the LUPP does not adequately recognize the importance of managing stormwater on a watershed level as a means to protect water resources; and, WHEREAS, with respect to water resources, such as the Special Resource of Hallett's Quarry or wetlands,the inclusion of these water resources in an open space or the acquisition of the water resource does not provide protection from degradation that would occur from improperly managed stormwater runoff within the larger watershed; and, WHEREAS, this portion of the LUPP should be changed to recognize the importance of watershed planning,the need to develop mitigation measures,and acquisition as a means to protect water resources;and, WHEREAS,staff is proposing that the Natural Resources Recommendations found on Page 79 of the LUPP be changed to include general policy discussion that recognizes the importance of watersheds as they relate to water resource protection; and, WHEREAS, the new language in the LUPP would indicate that further stormwater management planning on a watershed level is needed and would also reference such mitigation measures as stormwater quality ponds and other best management practices be required as development occurs within a watershed;and, WHEREAS,the Planning and Zoning Commission, at their meeting of June 21,2000,recommended approval of this change to the LUPP. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the change to the Natural Resource section of the LUPP as above-indicated is hereby approved.
