HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - July 29, 2000, Street Closures for Shrine All-Star Football Game Parade RESOLUTION NO. 00-373 RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGES IN TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURES FOR SHRINE ALL-STAR FOOTBALL GAME PARADE FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, on June 27, 2000, the City Council approved the temporary street closures needed for the Shrine All-Star Football Game Parade to be held on July 29, 2000; and, WHEREAS,the Parade was to be routed through the Downtown Business District along Main Street from Douglas Avenue to Clark Avenue as well as along Northwestern Avenue, Sixth Street, and Elwood Drive; and, WHEREAS,upon further review of this route,the General Manager of the Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Game requested that the route be changed along streets within the Business District and be located where on-street parking could be removed on both sides of the street; and, WHEREAS,Parade organizers also believe that the route should be further altered due to the Sixth Street Bridge closure across the Union Pacific Railroad; WHEREAS,the Shrine Bowl organizers requested to use Fifth Street(Douglas Avenue to Clark Avenue) as the Parade route instead of Main Street on July 29 from 12:30- 1:30 p.m.; and, WHEREAS,the streets that will be temporarily closed for the parade will include Fifth Street,from Douglas Avenue to Clark Avenue;Pearle Avenue,from Main Street to Fifth Street;Fifth Street,from Pearle Avenue to Clark Avenue;Clark Avenue,from Fifth Street to Sixth Street;and Sixth Street,from Clark Avenue to Duff Avenue;and, WHEREAS,parking along Fifth Street would be prohibited from 6:00 a.m.to 1:30 p.m.to accommodate the Parade procession. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the requests from the Shrine Bowl to temporarily block intersections and street sections along Fifth Street,Pearl Avenue,Clark Avenue, and Sixth Street and to prohibit parking along Fifth Street from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to accommodate the Shrine Bowl Parade procession are hereby approved.
