HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street Closure for Shrine All-Star Football Game Parade RESOLUTION NO. 00-307 RESOLUTION APPROVING TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURES FOR SHRINE ALL-STAR FOOTBALL GAME PARADE FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,a request has been received from the General Manager of the Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Game Parade to temporarily close streets for a Shrine Bowl Parade on July 29,2000; and, WHEREAS,this football game features the best high school athletes who are participating in the college level next year, and it is the first time in 28 years that it is being held in Ames; and, WHEREAS,the parade will start at 12:30 p.m.on Fifth Street at DuffAvenue and will end at approximately 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot south of Jack Trice Field; and, WHEREAS,the parade route will follow a similar route used by Midnight Madness from the Downtown area to Elwood Drive to avoid the at-grade railroad crossings as well as major streets and intersections; and, WHEREAS,the streets that will be temporarily closed for the parade will include Main Street, from Duff to Northwestern,and Elwood Drive, from Sixth Street to Center Street; and, WHEREAS,the Shrine will provide volunteers to man barricades at the minor intersections,but will rely on the Police Department to direct traffic at the Elwood/Lincoln Way and Duff/Main Street intersections; and, WHEREAS,an alternate route along Clark/Walnut Avenue(Main Street to South Third/Fourth Street)on South Third/Fourth Street(Walnut Avenue to the Jack Trice Stadium Parking Lot)will be used in the event that the Sixth Street bridge is closed; and, WHEREAS,it is also requested that on-street parking be prohibited on Saturday morning until noon along the sections of Sixth Street, Carroll Avenue, and Fifth Street adjacent to the Bandshell Park to accommodate the procession. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the requests from the Shrine Bowl to temporarily block intersections and street sections along Main Street, Sixth Street, and Elwood Drive on July 29 and to prohibit on-street parking on July 29 until noon along sections of Sixth Street, Carroll Avenue, and Fifth Street adjacent to the Bandshell Park are hereby approved.
