RESOLUTION APPROVING THE RESOURCE RECOVERY SYSTEM
TIPPING FEE FOR 2000/01
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, each year near the end of the fiscal year, the financial status of the
Resource Recovery System is evaluated; and,
WHEREAS, the tipping fee that is charged to haulers for the disposal of solid waste was
$47/ton for fiscal years 1997/98 and 1998/99 because savings in debt from a small bond was paid
off; and,
WHEREAS,as Fiscal Year 1999/2000 comes to an end,it appears expenditures will exceed
revenues, and if the rates are left the same for next year, it would result in a negative fund balance
in 2000/01; and,
WHEREAS, the reason that the revenues are not meeting projection relates to the amount
of material that we had estimated that we would process versus the actual amount processed; and,
WHEREAS, in order to address the situation, it appears that there is a need to implement a
tipping fee rate increase, and if the rate were raised to $45/ton, a positive balance is forecasted for
the year; and,
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the tipping fee for 2000/01 is hereby set at $45/ton to commence on July 1, 2000.
ADOPTED THIS 13th day of June,2000.
