RESOLUTION WAIVING PUMPED SEWAGE DISPOSAL FEE
FOR BROILER RESTAURANT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, on May 9,2000,the City Council approved a variety of actions to help stop the
pollution of College Creek; and,
WHEREAS,these included the waiver of disposal costs at the City's Water Pollution Control
Plant for waste pumped from Elwell's Chef s Inn Restaurant and three mobile home parks; and,
WHEREAS,recently, the Boone Sanitarian, working with the owner of the Broiler Restaurant,
determined that the Broiler's septic tank is also connected directly to the County drain tile system;
and,
WHEREAS, after consulting with DNR staff, the Sanitarian indicated that the most logical
approach would be to require the Broiler to meet the same"no discharge"standard which enters the
drain tile from either restaurant; and,
WHEREAS, this type of disposal would eliminate the source of creek pollution until the
offenders have completed construction of new, permanent wastewater treatment facilities; and,
WHEREAS,in order to demonstrate the City's support for the Sanitarian to order the Broiler
Restaurant to immediately cease discharging all sewage into the County drain tile, it would be
appropriate for the City Council to waive the disposal fee for pumped waste at our Water Pollution
Control Plant for up to six months while the Restaurant installs a new waste treatment system.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City ofAmes,Iowa, that
the pumped sewage disposal fee for the Broiler Restaurant is hereby waived for up to six months.
