RESOLUTION DIRECTING STAFF TO BEGIN THE PROCESS
OF RETAINING ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES TO PREPARE
PRELIMINARY DESIGNS, CONCEPTUAL DRAWINGS,AND
COST ESTIMATES FOR A NEW MULTI-USE RECREATION CENTER
WITH AN INDOOR/OUTDOOR AQUATIC FACILITY
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, at the City Council's goal-setting session in 1998, the Council established a
priority of improving the City's recreation facilities; and,
WHEREAS, the Parks & Recreation Commission then retained Iowa State University to
conduct a scientific random survey and to hold focus groups; and,
WHEREAS,the Commission also met with affiliate groups and held a public meeting; and,
WHEREAS, the top priority determined from these meetings and survey were a multi-use
recreation center with an indoor/outdoor aquatic center; and,
WHEREAS, the FY 2000/01 Capital Improvements Plan includes $45,000 to retain
architectural services to prepare designs, drawings, and estimates for such a center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that staff is hereby directed to retain architectural services relating to a new recreation center with
an indoor/outdoor aquatic facility.
ADOPTED THIS 25th day of April, 2000.
