HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Procedures for Handicapped Employee Parking Permits RESOLUTION NO. 00-024 RESOLUTION APPROVING PROCEDURES FOR HANDICAPPED EMPLOYEE PARKING PERMITS AT METERED SPACES IN THE MAIN STREET AND CAMPUSTOWN BUSINESS DISTRICTS FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,there are times when individuals with physical handicaps who work in the Main Street or Campustown Business Districts require longer-term parking options than are allowed in our metered spaces;and, WHEREAS,these individuals,who are either temporarily or permanently disabled and in need ofparking in a space all day,cannot locate a convenient space because there is a two-hour limit on handicapped spaces;and, WHEREAS, in order to address this need, staff has identified a program to allow a handicapped employee of a Main Street or Campustown business the opportunity to purchase a booklet of"permits"to use at a metered parking space; and, WHEREAS, staff has recommended that the following procedures be followed: l. Handicapped Employee Parking Permits will be available for those employees of Main Street District or Campustown District businesses who are temporarily or permanently disabled and in need of long-term parking in a metered space. 2. The person must qualify for a state of Iowa handicapped parking tag or license plate. 3. A book of ten permits at a cost of$30 will be available for purchase at the City of Ames Public Works Department. 4. Individual permits are valid for one day only and must have the date and meter number written in permanent ink. The permits are valid only for the person to whom they are issued. 5. The permit must be displayed from the vehicle dashboard in the plastic sleeve provided,and it must be visible to Parking System Officers. 6. A new permit must be used if the vehicle is moved during the day to another meter. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the procedures for handicapped employee parking permits at metered spaces in the Main Street and Campustown Business Districts as above-listed are hereby approved.
