HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Rescheduling Traffic Signal Projects at 24th and Hayes and 24th and Northwestern RESOLUTION NO. 99-454 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE RESCHEDULING OF TRAFFIC SIGNAL PROJECTS AT 24TH/HAYES AND 24TH/NORTHWESTERN INTERSECTIONS UNTIL 2002/2003 AND 2003/2004,RESPECTIVELY, FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, staff believes that the traffic signal projects for 24th Street/Northwestern and 24th Street/Hayes which were included in the Capital Improvements Plan for 1997/98 and 1998/99, respectively, should be delayed until traffic volumes generated from area development warrant the installations; and, WHEREAS,these projects were prioritized highly due to anticipated traffic growth on 24th Street, but this growth has not been experienced yet; and, WHEREAS, by delaying these projects, staff believes that Iowa DOT grants could be obtained to offset the $110,000 cost for each signal installation($220,000 total); and, WHEREAS, in the next several years, staff believes that traffic signals should be justified at these two intersections when the Somerset Subdivision is nearing completion. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the rescheduling of traffic signal projects at 24th/Hayes and 24th/Northwestern intersections until 2002/2003 and 2003/2004, respectively, is hereby approved.
