RESOLUTION WAIVING PERMIT FEES AND AUTHORIZING
THE USE OF STAFF RESOURCES IN CONNECTION WITH
THE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY P.A.T.H. PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,Habitat for Humanity's project for this year is to"blitz build"a four-unit residential
complex at 219 S. Kellogg designed to help transitional families; and,
WHEREAS,to date,over 70 businesses have responded,reducing the overall cost of the project
by$100,000,but the project still has a shortfall in the funding; and,
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity has asked for a waiver of all permit and inspection fees,
including building,plumbing,electrical permits,and a demolition permit,for the Partners for Affordable
Transitional Housing(P.A.T.H.)project; and,
WHEREAS, the City is also being asked to waive the requirement to abandon the old water
service at the main due to the $3,000 cost to repair the street after the abandonment occurs; and,
WHEREAS,the City's Public Works Department believes that the proper abandonment should
be done as it will eliminate the future leaking of that service which may damage the City street and
infrastructure; and,
WHEREAS,the Public Works Director will allow City staff to expose the water service tap at the
main and replace the street at the City's expense if a plumber licensed in the City of Ames will volunteer
his time to perform the abandonment as required by the Municipal Plumbing Code.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
waivers of building,plumbing, electrical, and demolition permit fees for the P.A.T.H. project at 219 S.
Kellogg are hereby approved and City staff is authorized to expose the water service tap at the main and
replace the street at the City's expense contingent on a plumber licensed in the City of Ames volunteering
his time to perform the abandonment of the old water service at the main as required by the Municipal
Plumbing Code.
