RESOLUTION APPROVING EXPENDITURE FOR
WIDENING OF LINCOLN HIGHWAY FROM 24' TO 34' WITH
PAVED 5'-WIDE SHOULDERS TO ALLOW BICYCLE AND
PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC BETWEEN AMES AND NEVADA
WHEREAS, Story County is applying for grant funding to widen Lincoln Highway in order
to provide room for bicyclists and pedestrians to travel between Ames and Nevada; and,
WHEREAS,there is no question that the widening proj ect would provide for safer movement
of bicyclists and pedestrians between the two cities; and,
WHEREAS, our City's Bicycle Master Plan calls for a bike path to eventually be extended
east on Lincoln Way to the City's eastern limits; and,
WHEREAS,this path could eventually be connected to the proposed Story County project;
and,
WHEREAS, if the grant is funded which is being applied for by Story County, the City of
Ames' share of the applicant match would be $4,727; and,
WHEREAS, the grant match would be allocated out of Road Use Tax Funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the matching funds to be remitted by the City in the amount of$4,727 to be allocated out of
Road Use Tax Funds are hereby approved.
