RESOLUTION APPROVING INCREASE
IN FOUNDATION DRAIN PROGRAM GRANTS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,to minimize the amount of clean water that enters the sanitary sewer system and
processed through the Wastewater Treatment Plant when it is not required to be treated, the City has
operated a grant program since 1987 for residents who concert the discharge point of their foundation
drains from the sanitary sewer to the storm sewer; and,
WHEREAS, the program is voluntary and only residential properties are eligible; and,
WHEREAS, since 1990 to the present, the current base grant(needs a pump and frost-free
discharge pipe to the storm sewer) is $900, and if a new drain pit needs to be installed in addition
to the pump and discharge pipe, the grant is $1,100; and,
WHEREAS,the company that has completed the vast majority of the grant program projects
over the last several years has requested that an increase in the grant be reviewed due to the increases
in labor, equipment, and material costs over the past nine years.
WHEREAS,staff feels that an increase of 2%per year($1,100 for the base grant and$1,300
for the grant involving adding a pit, pump, and discharge line) is justified since construction costs
have continued to rise over the period since the grant was last increased.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the increase in foundation drain grant amounts to $1,100 for the base grant and$1,300 for the
grant involving adding a pit, pump, and discharge line is hereby approved.
