RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENT TO THE
LAND USE POLICY PLAN MAP
FOR THE AREA AROUND HALLETT'S QUARRY
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, a request has been received by the City to change the land use designations on the
Land Use Policy Plan(LUPP)Map from the current designations of`Environmentally Sensitive Land"and
"Agricultural/Farmstead"to `Environmentally Sensitive Land" and "Village/Suburban Residential" for
property generally located north of the Ames corporate limits, west of U. S. Highway 69, east of Grant
Avenue, and south of West 190th Street; and,
WHEREAS,this request also involves expanding the Urban Growth Boundary line for the"New
Lands" area to increase the number of acres of land that are available for urban development by
approximately 178 acres; and,
WHEREAS, the total size of the subject property that includes several parcels under different
ownership is approximately 452 areas; and,
WHEREAS, if the developers are able to satisfactorily resolve the challenges that have been
identified or any that may yet be identified,the benefits of the public access to this water resource and the
enhanced ability to protect the resource are significant to the City; and,
WHEREAS,prior to approval of annexation and rezoning,it will be necessary for the City and the
landowner to prepare a Developer's Agreement that addresses the full array of development issues that
relate to this property.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the request to change the LUPP Map designations from `Environmentally Sensitive Land" and
"Agricultural/Farmstead"to `Environmentally Sensitive Land" and "Village/Suburban Residential" for
property generally located north of the Ames corporate limits, west of U. S. Highway 69, east of Grant
Avenue, and south of West 190th Street is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 11 th day of May, 1999.
