HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Waiving Formal Bidding Requirements and Authorizing Boiler Repair Work at the Power Plant RESOLUTION NO. 99-127 RESOLUTION WAIVING FORMAL BIDDING REQUIREMENTS AND AUTHORIZING BOILER REPAIR WORK AT THE POWER PLANT FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, in June 1995,boiler#8 had six water wall tubes burst open,causing extensive damage that resulted in emergency repair work; and, WHEREAS, the boiler was repaired and placed back in service in July; and, WHEREAS,the tube failure was due to think tubes as a result of burning refuse derived fuel (RDF), and a program was started to monitor tube thickness and to predict when corrective action is required; and, WHEREAS, during a recent boiler outage, tube thickness was monitored, and it was determined that approximately 337 sq.ft.of tube surfaces needed to be repaired with the application of weld overlay; and, WHEREAS,proposals were received and Diverse Welding,Inc.,was the low bidder in the amount of$66,771; and, WHEREAS, it was thought that this project would come in under$50,000,thus,the formal bidding procedures were not instituted; and, WHEREAS, Diverse Welding did the repair work in 1997 and did quality work. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the formal bidding procedures are waived and Diverse Welding, Inc., is authorized to perform boiler repair work in the amount of$66,771.
