HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Approving Handicapped Parking Space Plan for Downtown Business Area RESOLUTION NO. 99-115 RESOLUTION APPROVING HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE PLAN FOR DOWNTOWN BUSINESS AREA FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, staff initiated a handicapped parking evaluation in the Downtown Business District due to concerns about the existing handicapped accommodations and to review the locations of handicapped parking spaces along Main Street; and, WHEREAS,to gain input from users for this evaluation, staff met with a review committee consisting of three handicapped persons and established general goals for the handicapped parking system that included dimension requirements, location, and total number of spaces provided that would enhance the handicapped parking accommodations; and, WHEREAS, from the evaluation, staff devised a plan which provided for additional handicapped spaces along Main Street, Fifth Street, and in the Kellogg parking lot next to Fifth Street; WHEREAS,to meet state and federal statutes,existing parking spaces in the public parking lots and along streets will also be modified to meet wheelchair and van accessibility standards. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Handicapped Parking Space Plan for the Downtown Business Area is hereby approved.
